The department makes on order a variety of good quality Engineering Items. It also offers consultancy in Engineering design and drawing for all Mechanical Engineering related work.

Innovations, Participation in National Events And Achievements

The department places keen interest in innovations. It has participated in several National competitions as follows:

  1. In 2010 The Department innovated a machine for feeding the physically disabled and emerged the best at Regional Trade Fair contest held at Meru.
  2. In 2013 NACOSTI we innovated a cabbage cutter that was exhibited at the National Council for Science and Technology Innovation week in Nairobi and become the best Nationally. 
  3. In May 2015 we exhibited a food processing machine at Council for Science and Technology Innovation week in Nairobi and become the best overall Nationally again.

  4. August 2014 a team of three students were and a Technical advisor participated in the first Africa Tech Challenge (ATC) organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoEST) and AVIC Internal (China), held in Nairobi at the Technical University of Kenya. The theme of the contest was to train the Kenyan youth in Technical and entrepreneurial skills. The Contest was attended by 18 Institutions comprising Technical Training Institutes and Universities. Nyeri National Polytechnic emerged the 2nd best overall in the contest. The second best student in ATC was also our student (Paul Mburu Warutere) and was awarded a scholarship to study Manufacturing and Robotics degree course in China. Additionally the ATC team also won a manufacturing contract for a AVIC International of the Peoples Republic of China. As a result of the victory in ATC contest, AVIC International Corporation invited a delegation of Senior Ministry officials and the Top management of Nyeri National Polytechnic for a benchmarking tour in China. While in China the team visited Technical Institutes and engineering Industries like Mongolia Institute of Mechanical and electric Engineering, SANY Institute, SANY Manufacturing Company.
