Applied Science

The department was established in the 2003. It started by introducing a Certificate course in Science Laboratory Technology targeting Laboratory technicians for secondary schools. In 2006 two diploma courses in Analytical Chemistry and Applied Biology were introduced. In 2010 another diploma course in Food Science technology was started.

The latest course introduced is diploma in Environmental Science.

The department also offers part-time classes in Certificate course in Science Laboratory Technology, Diploma in Analytical Chemistry and Applied Biology. We target those in employment but not trained. These are currently offered in the months of April, August and December when the regular students are on recess. Our fees are friendly and the learning mode flexible. We encourage those qualified to apply for any of the above courses.

Currently the department has a workforce of 16 TSC and 3 BOG teaching staff and 1 technician. The department continues to offer services in the Engineering departments in Engineering sciences, Mathematics and Chemistry. The population continues to rise as our courses is market driven.

Future Prospects

The department intends to introduce Certificate course in Food Science, Higher diploma in Analytical Chemistry and Applied Biology in the near future. Other courses in the pipeline include Applied Statistics and Industrial Chemistry. There are prospects of coming up with other new courses based on market demand particular with the exploration of oil in the country.
