About The Department
Welcome to the department of Fashion Design and Cosmetology where we offer a range of market driven courses. We equip our students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the competitive fields of fashion design and cosmetology industries. We offer diverse learning opportunities such as diplomas (Level 6), craft certificate (Level 5), artisan (Level 4) and short courses.

Staff
Currently, the department has 61 trainers who TVETA accredited to train in diploma, craft and artisan levels in their respective sections. The department has the highest enrolment in the institution and it has been increasing over the past years and we project a future increment in numbers
Fashion & Design & Cosmetology
Our History
Fashion Design and Beauty Therapy Department started in 1987 as a clothing department. It was by then offering diploma in clothing technology and craft certificate in garment making with the TEP programme.
In 2006 the department started offering diploma and craft certificate in food and beverage. It also changed its name from clothing to Institutional Management Department (IM). The IM had two sections; clothing and food and beverage.
In 2012 the IM started the module programmes where the clothing section changed its course name to fashion design.
In 2014 the food and beverage section also started new courses in Catering and Accommodation Management and Tourism Management.
In 2016 the Institutional Management Department was divided into two independent departments and these are the fashion design and beauty therapy and hospitality and tourism management departments.
Fashion Design
The course involves managing the planning of design and construction of garments, sketching, illustrating and designing selected garments, constructing and cutting the garment patterns pieces, designing and decorating of fabrics, designing and construction of accessories.

Cosmetology
The course involves plaiting, braiding, manicure, pedicure enamel application, barbering, hair cutting, roller setting, blow styling, thermal styling dreadlock services, hair relaxation, perming, hair colouring, make up, facial treatment, hair removal services, piercing, henna art, body tattooing, micro blading, body massage, body scrubs and steam bath.
