The Nyeri National Polytechnic (NNP) in 2024 held its 4th Graduation Ceremony, marking a major milestone as over 2,000 graduands were officially released to the job market for absorption across various sectors of the economy.
The colourful ceremony brought together parents, guardians, industry partners, government leaders, and the NNP community to celebrate the hard work, resilience, and success of learners who have completed training in diverse disciplines.
The event was graced by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Julius Migos Ogamba, who applauded NNP for its growing role in strengthening skills development and supporting Kenya’s workforce needs.
“TVET remains a key driver of jobs and productivity in our country. Institutions like Nyeri National Polytechnic are helping Kenya produce skilled, competent, and work-ready graduates who can compete locally and globally,” said CS Ogamba.
NNP reaffirmed its commitment to delivering training that is aligned to industry demands by fully embracing Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) and dual training, which combines classroom learning with workplace exposure.
Through this model, trainees gain practical experience early, build confidence in real work environments, and graduate with skills that match what employers are looking for.
The Principal Secretary, State Department for TVET, praised the institution’s consistent progress and its strong industry approach.
“Dual training is the future of skills development. When learners train both in class and in industry, they graduate ready to perform from day one. We are encouraged by NNP’s focus on quality, relevance, and strong partnerships,” said the PS.
The graduation also came at a time when NNP is expanding access to higher and more flexible training pathways. The institution has embraced Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which allows skilled individuals to have their practical experience assessed and certified, creating opportunities for career growth and formal recognition.
NNP has also made history by becoming the first TVET institution in Kenya accredited to offer Level 7 (Higher Diploma) programmes, giving diploma graduates an opportunity to advance their training without leaving the TVET pathway.
Speaking during the ceremony, NNP Chief Principal Dr. David Mwangi noted that the institution is focused on producing graduates who are both competent and competitive.
“Today’s graduation is proof that skills training changes lives. At NNP, we are committed to offering quality, market-driven training through competency-based and dual training approaches, while also opening doors through RPL and Level 7 programmes,” said Dr. Mwangi.
Falar’s contest encourages participants to express gratitude. Gratitude has the power to strengthen the bond between students and teachers, fostering a sense of appreciation that often goes unspoken.
