Ensuring Quality at Nyeri National Polytechnic

Hellen W. Mwangi – Quality Management Representative

At Nyeri National Polytechnic, quality is not just a concept—it is the backbone of every policy, practice, and process.

Guided by a robust framework of national and international standards, our Governing Council, Quality Assurance (QA) officers and ISO Management Representative Team work collaboratively to ensure that the institution not only meets but exceeds expectations in service delivery, academic excellence, and operational efficiency.

Standards and Frameworks That Guide Us

ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management Systems

This standard ensures that institutional processes are documented, monitored, and continuously improved. The QA team oversees internal audits, risk-based thinking, and stakeholder engagement to maintain a customer-focused and transparent system. The institution is preparing for re-certification.

ISO 21001:2018 – Educational Organizations Management Systems

The institution is preparing for surveillance audit by KEBS and seeking certification in this education-specific standard to enhance learning outcomes, curriculum relevance, learner satisfaction, and inclusivity.

ISO/IEC 27001:2022 – Information Security Management Systems

Management ensures confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets through structured risk assessments and ICT controls. The institution is preparing for certification under the updated 2022 standard.

TVETA Regulations

As a registered TVET institution, compliance with TVETA Quality Standards is mandatory. QA officers coordinate internal assessments, staff licensing, curriculum validation, and infrastructure audits.

Academic Policy & Competence Based Assessment (CBA)

The Academic Policy ensures fairness and integrity in teaching and assessment. Through CBA, learners are evaluated according to industry-relevant standards.

Yesterday, 22nd May 2026, a section of trainees at The Nyeri National Polytechnic staged a protest outside the institution's premises. The protest escalated to violence and disruption of the Polytechnic’s activities. It took several hours for the county security team to contain the situation.

The Governing Council, in consultation with the security team, has assessed the prevailing circumstances and resolved to close the Polytechnic with effect from today, 23rd May 2026, until further notice.

All trainees are directed to vacate the institution's premises, including the hostels, by 8:00 a.m. Saturday, 23rd May 2026.

The Council regrets the disruption this decision causes to trainees, staff, parents, and guardians, and thanks the institution's stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during this period.
