Shape

The Dairy Processing Plant at The Nyeri National Polytechnic is a flagship Income Generating Unit that blends training, innovation, and enterprise. Here, learning goes beyond the classroom into real production, where trainees participate in transforming fresh farm milk into high-quality yoghurt branded “Unified”.

Powered by milk from the Polytechnic’s own high-quality herd, the plant demonstrates a complete farm-to-factory-to-market value chain within the institution.

From Our Farm to Your Table

Milk used in production comes from the polytechnic’s well-managed herd, ensuring:

  • Quality control from source

  • Traceability of raw materials

  • Demonstration of best practices in dairy farming

  • Sustainable integration between agriculture and processing

This closed-loop model makes the plant a showcase for value addition in agriculture.

Supporting Innovation and Income Generation

As an income-generating unit, the Dairy Processing Plant:

  • Contributes to institutional sustainability

  • Provides real business exposure to trainees

  • Demonstrates how TVET institutions can commercialize innovation

  • Supports local markets with quality dairy products

Yesterday, 22nd May 2026, a section of trainees at The Nyeri National Polytechnic staged a protest outside the institution's premises. The protest escalated to violence and disruption of the Polytechnic’s activities. It took several hours for the county security team to contain the situation.

The Governing Council, in consultation with the security team, has assessed the prevailing circumstances and resolved to close the Polytechnic with effect from today, 23rd May 2026, until further notice.

All trainees are directed to vacate the institution's premises, including the hostels, by 8:00 a.m. Saturday, 23rd May 2026.

The Council regrets the disruption this decision causes to trainees, staff, parents, and guardians, and thanks the institution's stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during this period.

All trainees, staff, parents, and members of the public are advised to take note of this directive and comply accordingly. Further communication regarding reopening and subsequent arrangements shall be issued through official institutional channels at the appropriate time.
