Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering department is one of the pioneer departments in The Nyeri National Polytechnic, having been started in 1977.

The major objective of the department is to meet the requirements of the industries in the field of Mechanical Engineering and therefore to train students in this field.

The Department is vibrant, due to dynamic and competent technical staff members, as well as our enthusiastic and hardworking students. Our staff members are trained at highly-reputable Universities and Colleges all over Kenya, with specialized knowledge and Skills that run the gamut of Mechanical Engineering, ranging from basic Mechanical Engineering to Advanced Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM).

The department has six workshops equipped with state-of-the-art and specialized equipment like CAD/CAM Laboratory (CNC lathe, CNC Miller), Gear Hobber, MIG/MAG, MIG and TIG welding machines, to mention but a few.

The Department offers Certificate and Diploma courses in Mechanical Engineering.

The Craft and Diploma students acquire a good balance of theoretical background and practical experience throughout their course of study. Students are equipped with the practical skills necessary to begin working effectively in Engineering firms immediately after completion. Upon graduation, they are usually competent enough to compete favorably for National and International job markets.

Our Mechanical Engineering graduates have found work all over Kenya, and are dealing with megaprojects, bettering people’s lives. Others have found their passion in self employment, offering specialized Technical services. We ensure that our graduates have the understanding necessary to maintain their skills and competencies throughout their professional career.
