Message from the HOD

The industry is evolving day in and day out, and our goal is to keep up with the current trends and technologies in the agriculture field as we equip trainees with the relevant skills and knowledge in their field of specialization.
The agriculture sector represents a prime opportunity for youth employment in our country and foreign nations. With the current demand for export of labour, we ensure that our trainees gain competencies and hands on skills that measure up the current world standards, giving them an upper hand in the current labor markets.

Our Key Objectives

  • To provide trainees with practical skills in agriculture training aligning with industry needs
  • To ensure our curriculum remains up to date with skills required in the industry trends
  • Inspire innovation for sustainable agriculture

Vision

  • To excel in training our trainees with hands on skills, knowledge and competencies in the agriculture industry that will promote their employability, encourage innovation and agripreneurship.
  • To be a leading center of excellence in agricultural training, research and innovations, empowering trainees and the industry stakeholders to addressing global agricultural challenges while promoting sustainable agricultural practices resulting in food security.

Mission

  • To impact our trainees with knowledge and skills through competency-based skilling in the agriculture to fit the current trends and technologies in the agriculture industry. The department is geared towards graduating trainees with hands on skills through exposure to practical training sessions in all areas of their required competencies.

Labour Export

The department prides in skilling for labour export where our agriculture trainees have join the world labour market in United Kingdom(UK) under the United Kingdom seasonal workers schemes.
Currently we have our first cohort for sheep sheering which is being skilled for Australian labour market where the demand for sheep sheerer is very high.

Crop Section

At the core of the farm’s operations are its thriving horticultural vegetable gardens, where horticultural crops such as courgettes, tomatoes, Ethiopian and Curly kale, beet root and spinach flourish.

These vegetables not only serve as a vital resource for the institution’s food supply but also promote sustainable farming techniques and organic practices.

The farm has also dairy and bee forage crops and fruits.

Animals Section

The farm also boasts an impressive livestock section, home to dairy cows, where cow comfort, precision feeding with proper breeding have made the Farm to truly stand out as a remarkable learning and operational hub. Sheep and goats enrich the farm’s diversity, offering meat, milk, wool, and other by-products.

Their care equips students with essential skills in small ruminant farming, blending sustainability with practical education.

The piggery showcases modern efficiency, with well-bred, thriving pigs that generate income and provide students with hands-on training in  pig farming techniques.

Apiary Section

In addition to its livestock, the farm is home to a buzzing apiary, where bees are nurtured for honey production.

This component of the farm provides valuable lessons in beekeeping and pollination, contributing to environmental sustainability. The Apiary Unit serves as both a practical learning platform and a shining example of sustainable agriculture. Students gain hands-on experience in modern beekeeping techniques, from hive management to honey extraction, preparing them to thrive in the ever-growing apiculture industry.

The unit also produces high-quality honey, a testament to the effectiveness of its practices.Aspiring beekeepers, environmentalists, and curious minds alike will find inspiration in this buzzing corner of the institution.
