Liberal Studies Department – Overview
The Liberal Studies Department at The Nyeri National Polytechnic is a progressive and globally focused academic unit that develops highly skilled, ethical, and compassionate professionals in the fields of social work, counselling psychology, information studies, child protection, and caregiving.
As a department dedicated to building human capital for local and international service, it delivers its training through a modularized Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) system that prioritizes practical skills, character formation, and workplace readiness.
Learners at all levels engage in a rich blend of classroom instruction, community-based practicum, digital training, case studies, and guided fieldwork.
This ensures that they graduate not only with academic knowledge, but with relevant competencies aligned with international occupational standards in social services and development.
Vision
To be a leading center of excellence in competency-based training for social, psychological, informational, and community-based professions — producing graduates who are globally competitive, ethically grounded, and socially responsive.
Mission
To empower learners with practical competencies, critical thinking skills, and professional values through modularized, hands-on, and learner-centered training — preparing them to serve, lead, and transform society at local and global levels.
