The main principle of openness in education is to address the fundamental right of access to education. The Nyeri National Polytechnic (NNP) Open Distance and e-Learning directorate provides a platform on which all faculty use to engage students who are both on-campus and off-campus.

About ODEL

The Directorate of Open Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) was established as a synergy among the major stakeholders in order to achieve the mission and vision of the Polytechnic’s distance learning programmes. The Directorate is accountable for all programme management and delivery processes in providing all the necessary learner support services.

Directorate of ODeL supports learning by offering a platform for blended learning. The Directorate offers all the university common courses virtually. The Directorate is also in the process of collaborating with other universities and private organizations in order to explore a wider virtual learning environment.

Achieve Your Educational Goals From Anywhere!

We note that classroom based delivery of teaching and learning may not reach a large number of students as expected who are willing to study. Therefore, the directorate leverages on the benefits of Open, distance and online education as a feasible approach to learning.

ODeL Services

Our ODeL Centre is well equipped with the right infrastructure and highly trained human resource to be able to serve our trainees efficiently and effectively.

The main services that we offer include:

The distance education and training which is largely web-centered, but does not necessarily limit itself to learners outside a conventional classroom. It uses multimedia and, besides delivering content, also enables a high level of interaction among learners, content, trainers, peers and administration both synchronously and asynchronously.

eLearning, or electronic learning, is the delivery of learning and training through digital resources. Although eLearning is based on formalized learning, it is provided through electronic devices such as computers, tablets and even cellular phones that are connected to the internet.
