The department was established in the 2006. It is approved by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Ministry of Health, Kenya to train Pharmaceutical Technologists. Currently the department is offering the diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology course on full-time basis. The course runs for three academic years. The minimum entry requirements are:
Mean grade-C and C in English/Kiswahili, Mathematics/Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Currently the department has a workforce of 5 TSC and 7 part-time lecturers and one technician.
The department intends to introduce Certificate and Diploma courses in Medical Laboratory Sciences. There are prospects of coming up with other new courses based on market demand with particular emphasis on the healthcare sector.
