The 2nd NNP International Research Conference themed "Enhancing Sustainable Growth through Research, Science, Technology, and Innovation” aims to address the urgent need for sustainable development in the face of global challenges. With a focus on the pivotal role of research, science, technology, and innovation, the conference seeks to promote knowledge sharing, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the integration of policies and industries for practical sustainability applications.
Covering a diverse range of topics, including environmental conservation, education and skills development, entrepreneurship and enterprise development, health and biomedical innovation, digital transformation and technological advances, the event envisions outcomes such as deeper insights into sustainability, collaborative initiatives, policy guidance, innovative showcases, and the establishment of a global network. The conference, featuring various formats like keynote speeches, exhibitions and research paper presentation sessions, invites participation from academics, researchers, policy makers, industry professionals, innovators, and students, with the ultimate goal of contributing to a more sustainable and equitable future on a global scale. Upcoming Skills Competition

Venue: The Nyeri National Polytechnic Grounds, NYERI
The 1st NNP Skills Competition is an initiative that celebrates and promotes vocational and technical education and training (TVET). It acknowledges the outstanding skills and talents cultivated through TVET programs and provides a platform for individuals to showcase their expertise. This inaugural competition covers a diverse range of skill categories that reflect the breadth and relevance of TVET today.
It emphasizes skills development, quality assurance, and industry engagement through rigorous evaluations by expert judges. Moreover, the competition aims to reshape perceptions of vocational careers, encouraging more individuals, especially the youth, to consider TVET as a viable and rewarding path.
The 1st NNP Skills Competition is poised to be a transformative force in shaping a skilled and competitive workforce for the future, setting the stage for a series of events that will drive economic growth and excellence in vocational and technical education. Stakeholders, including educators, industry leaders, and policymakers, are invited to join in supporting and participating in this significant endeavor.
By bringing together TVET trainees from diverse backgrounds, this contest shall provide a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the exploration of new possibilities.
Objectives
The objectives of the 1st NNP Skills Competition are as follows:
1. To recognize and celebrate the skills and talents of individuals in diverse fields, including but not limited to mechanical, automotive, building, electrical, hospitality, fashion and beauty therapy;
2. To promote vocational and technical education as a viable and valuable career path, encouraging young people to consider these fields;
3. To provide a platform for skill development and learning through friendly competition and collaboration;
4. To encourage innovation and creativity in various trades and industries;
5. To facilitate networking and knowledge exchange among participants, experts, and industry leaders.
Competition Categories
The Nyeri National Polytechnic shall invite trainees currently learning in TVET institutions within East Africa to participate in the skills competition. The skills competition targets a series of skill-based challenges designed to test trainees’ expertise in specific domains. The challenges will be structured to assess proficiency, problem-solving abilities, critical thinking and adaptability in the following areas:

- – Fashion Technology
- – Brick Laying,
- – Floor and Wall Tiling
- – Electrical Installation,
- – Cooking
- – Restaurant Service
- – Mechanical Engineering- CAD
- – Spray Painting
- – Lathe Machining
Format
Competitors in each skill category will demonstrate their skills through practical tasks in the skill area. A panel of expert judges will evaluate the ccompetitors based on predefined criteria, ensuring a fair and transparent evaluation process.

The 1st NNP Skills Competition is open to TVET Trainees of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. It aims to attract:

Partnerships and Sponsorships
To ensure the success of the competition, we are seeking partnerships and sponsorships from the industry leaders and government agencies interested in promoting skills development and vocational education.

Eligibility
a) Participants MUST be trainees currently enrolled in a TVET institution within East Africa;
b) Institutions willing to participate in any of the categories are asked to register before 31st October 2023 to enable preparations;
c) All materials for the competition shall be provided by the Nyeri National Polytechnic
